The abstraction course aims to introduce the student to the artistic language of abstraction. It is especially aimed at those people who seek an aesthetic education based on synthesis, symbols, strokes and other compositional elements. Through a playful approach we will go through different exercises that help us to break down reality, being able to use geometry and organicity (reason and feeling) in addition to the sophisticated use of color.

Throughout the classes we will work on a minimal and introductory base of drawing and color. And from there we will move on to a series of plastic experiences that will open the way to abstraction and individual expression.

The materials and formats that we will use are more diverse than in a traditional painting course, such as oil, acrylic, colored paper, charcoal, pastels, among other textures that allow us to find the right medium for what we want to say.

ABSTRACT PAINTING

Welcome to our fascinating abstraction course! In this exciting course we will introduce you to the fascinating world of artistic expression without limits. But before we get into the detailed breakdown of the program, we want to explain to you what exactly abstract painting is and why it is such an intriguing art form.

Abstract painting is much more than just strokes and colors on the canvas. It is an artistic manifestation that goes beyond figurative representation, challenging traditional norms to explore pure expression and emotional connection. We will begin by exploring the constructive approach to drawing, using charcoal to capture the essence of forms. Without delving too deeply into chiaroscuro, we will focus on the simplicity and strength of the line.

Composition Exercises: Balance and Naturalization

We will move on to composition, merging drawing from nature with plates, seeking to naturalize the compositional balance. It will be fertile ground for developing artistic vision and visual harmony.

Grayscale Painting: Exploring Color Values

The next step takes us to painting, where we will dive into a basic grayscale exercise. Here, we will understand the importance of values ​​in color, using oil or acrylic to capture our ideas on the canvas.

Color Composition Paintings: Let’s Play with Paper and Objects!

We will then venture into new frontiers by incorporating coloured papers and objects into our compositions. The palette will expand, taking our creations to a vibrant and expressive dimension.

Master Copy: Learning from the Grand Masters

Inspired by masters such as Kandinsky and his writings on “The Spiritual in Art”, we will delve into the technique of copying references, analyzing its aesthetics and absorbing valuable lessons.

Shape Decomposition Exercises: Mondrian and More

We will explore the abstraction of landscapes, following in the footsteps of artists such as Mondrian. Here, elements are broken down to give rise to new visual and emotional interpretations.

First Personal Exercises: Tests in Small Formats

Students will unleash their creativity with personal exercises. Small formats will be the canvas for preliminary research, paving the way to the final work.

Experimentation with Materials and Formats: Expanding Horizons

This module immerses us in experimentation. From techniques without volume such as inks and pastels to exploring with volume using gesso, oil and acrylic, new possibilities will open up.

Mixed Media: Where the Magic Happens

Once various materials have been mastered, we will explore mixed media, discovering the compatibility between them. Students will launch into experimentation, learning through trial and error.

Personal Work Coaching: Developing Your Unique Style

We close the course with a personalized approach. Each student will receive individualized advice and support as they develop their personal work, thus culminating in a unique journey into the vast universe of abstract art.
