Specially aimed at those seeking an aesthetic education based on synthesis, symbolism, strokes, and other compositional elements.
Through a playful approach, we will go through different exercises that help us break down reality, being able to use geometry and organicity (reason and feeling), added to the sophisticated use of color.
Throughout the classes, we will work on a minimal, introductory basis of drawing and color. And from there, we will move on to a series of plastic experiences that will open the way to abstraction and individual expression.
The materials and formats we will use are more diverse than in a traditional painting course, such as oil, acrylic, colored paper, charcoal, pastels, among other textures that allow us to find the right medium for what we want to say.

But before we delve into the detailed breakdown of the program, we want to explain what exactly abstract painting is and why it’s such an intriguing art form.
Abstract painting is much more than simple strokes and colors on canvas. It is an artistic manifestation that goes beyond figurative representation, challenging traditional norms to explore pure expression and emotional connection. In this creative journey, abstract artists seek to liberate the mind and spirit, allowing form and color to become vehicles of unique communication.
Unlike figurative painting, where works depict recognizable objects or scenes, abstract painting delves into abstraction, where shapes and colors take on subjective meanings. Every brushstroke, every line, is a free expression of the artist’s imagination and emotions.
In this program, we’ll guide you through a journey that ranges from the fundamentals of drawing and composition to experimentation with various materials and techniques. We’ll encourage you to explore your own artistic voice, challenging conventions and immersing yourself in the richness of abstract art.
Introduction to Drawing: Discovering the Essence with Charcoal
We will begin by exploring the constructive approach to drawing, using charcoal to capture the essence of forms. Without going too far into chiaroscuro, we will focus on simplicity and the strength of the line.
Composition Exercises: Balance and Naturalization
We will move on to composition, merging life drawing with plates, seeking to naturalize compositional balance. This will be fertile ground for developing artistic vision and visual harmony.
Grayscale Painting: Exploring Color Values
The next step takes us to painting, where we will dive into a basic grayscale exercise. Here, we will understand the importance of values in color, using oil or acrylic to capture our ideas on the canvas.
Color Composition Paintings: Playing with Paper and Objects!
Next, we’ll venture into new frontiers by incorporating colored papers and objects into our compositions. The palette will expand, taking our creations to a vibrant and expressive dimension.
Master Copy: Learning from the Old Masters
Inspired by masters like Kandinsky and his writings on “The Spiritual in Art,” we’ll dive into the technique of copying references, analyzing their aesthetics and absorbing valuable lessons.
Exercises in Form Decomposition: Mondrian and Beyond
We’ll explore landscape abstraction, following in the footsteps of artists like Mondrian. Here, elements are broken down to give rise to new visual and emotional interpretations.
First Personal Exercises: Tests in Small Formats
Students will unleash their creativity with personal exercises. Small formats will be the canvas for preliminary research, paving the way to the final work.
Experimentation with Materials and Formats: Broadening Horizons
This module immerses us in experimentation. From volume-free techniques such as inks and pastels to exploring with volume using gesso, oil, and acrylic, new possibilities will open up.
